Quincy Finds A New Home is a picture book for girls and boys ages 4 to 8. The author, Camille Matthews, introduces a little red horse named Quincy and recounts his first adventure. Camille combines an understanding of feelings, relationships and life's challenges gained from years of working with human clients as a psychotherapist and her lifelong love of horses to create a story that is exciting and comforting. The illustrator, Michelle Black, is a professional horse trainer and a painter. Michelle provides beautifully rendered oil paintings that bring Quincy to life for readers. Her eye for detail, her use of color, and her ability to capture and express emotion through her illustrations enhance Camille's sensitive description of Quincy's feelings and experiences. The two have teamed up to create a work of warmth and depth that allows children to become deeply engaged in Quincy's world. This is a story about change and growth that shows how much we all need acceptance and friendship.
The Story
One day a new owner comes to the farm where Quincy lives and takes him to a new home. At first Quincy feels sad and confused. His new home is the biggest barn he has ever seen. The people at the new barn are friendly but Quincy is not sure of himself. The new barn is a VERY busy place. Quincy is ridden almost every day and when he is finished he gets a bath and CARROTS! Quincy meets a new friend named Beau but there is a BIG problem. There are horseshows every Sunday and Quincy does not know how to jump jumps and win ribbons. At first Quincy does not know what to do but in the end, Beau and Quincy find an answer.
